A man who is married to the granddaughter of the President of the United States. A man who acquires power as much as he loses his soul. Money and fame are insufficient to adequately compensate for the lost youth ideals; the same is happening with America whose embodiment is the citizen Kane.

A cinematic story of drama that rages on in people’s hearts even after the war. The hero, an Orthodox Christian monk, finds himself on a road to spiritual healing through circumstances he could never have dreamed of. The story follows the path to spiritual uplifting, metaphorically introduced at the very beginning in the hero’s walk to the secluded hermitage. The leitmotif of watering a dry, dead tree, repeated throughout the film, illustrates the absurdity of the monk’s faith. The permanent paralysis of the characters after the torment of war invokes forgiveness as the only means to ultimate healing.

13 lives affected by the arms trade converge in a warehouse in Berlin. From around the world, they have come to dramatize and record their personal stories for ‘Situation Rooms’, a show by Berlin-based theater legends, Rimini Protokoll. Director, Christine Cynn, continues the exploration of performance and violence begun in ‘The Act of Killing’ (which she co-directed with Joshua Oppenheimer, a film nominated for the Oscar in the category for Best Documentary in 2014), juxtaposing dramatic re-enactments with unscripted moments of private reflection and backstage conversation between the protagonists. "Shooting ourselves” talks about the fabulous atmosphere of this futuristic production, in which unknown people from all over the world - and from all sides of the political spectrum - are subjected to the theater world in which all views are equally treated. This is a story about a dysfunctional, but warm family, whose members are connected by weapons and wars.

The retrospective will be composed of: Container (2008), The Mad Revolutionary (2006), Raison d'être (2015), Encounter (2014), The Great Orator (2007), C'est la vie (2016) and In Continuo (2009 ). The projection will be followed by a discussion with professor Sidovski.

Based on a novel, and inspired by the idea of ​​social experiments, “The Wave" speaks of a professor’s attempt to change the world. The high school teacher Rainer Wegner is a favorite among the students, but at the same time he is an unusual person. In order to teach his students the idea of ​​autocracy, he encourages them to simulate self-governance as a social form. Unfortunately, the experiment gets out of control and begins to resemble the historical past of Germany. Faced with the newly emerging horror, will Wegner and his students succeed in getting out of the terrible circumstances?

"Dust", the second feature film of Manchevski, is a tale that spans two continents and three centuries, where the Balkan Wild East clashes with the American Wild West. In the United States, we follow the struggle of two brothers for the love of one woman, and in the Balkans, a young revolutionary's attempt to free Macedonia from the Ottoman Empire. The film is subject to numerous cultural analyzes, film essays and debates, which furthermore confirms its (artistic, aesthetic, cultural) value, not only in a local framework, but also far beyond.
